Port Talbot Wheelers Cycling Club

As 2026 approaches fast, the Port Talbot Wheelers Cycling Club is nearing its Centenary Year. Having been founded in 1926, the Port Talbot Wheelers is one of the oldest and most successful cycling clubs in Wales. Currently there are over 130 Club Members, with some past and present having competed the Road and Track Events at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games in addition to European, National and Welsh Championships, with some claiming honours over the past 97 years; hopefully there will be many more honours to celebrate in the future. The Port Talbot Wheelers are visible in the South Wales area in their iconic club red, white and green jerseys. However, the Wheelers have sported various coloured jerseys over the years, including, purple, yellow, white, as well as a jersey inspired by the FAGOR Cycling Team in the late 1980’s.

The Port Talbot Wheelers organise several social gatherings a year, including Quiz Nights, Curry Nights, Tour de France watch along parties, Annual Awards and Club Dinner evenings as well as a weekly gathering at 7pm every Friday at the Taibach  Community Centre where members can get together over a cuppa, cake and biscuits.

There are several opportunities to ride with the Port Talbot Wheelers throughout any given week. On a Tuesday there’s a  steady ride to Mumbles (10pm) from Briton Ferry Bridge. On a Thursday evening between April and September there’s a Club Time Trial which meets at Resolven Canal Car Park. Saturdays sees the group head out on a training ride at 09:30am and Sundays sees the Ramblers leave at 09:30am and the Club Run 10:00am; both Saturday and Sunday rides leave from the Plaza, Port Talbot.

The club's constitution states “its primary objective shall be to encourage the sport and pastime of cycling in all its forms”. Information about the Port Talbot Wheelers can be found on their website; however, the best source of information is to head to the club on a Friday night, introduce yourself, have a cuppa and join a ride.
